Luang Prabang, Laos
Amantaka derives its name from aman (‘peace’) and taka, from Tipitaka, meaning ‘the teaching of the Buddha’ in Theravada scholastic literature. Set on a garden estate with a serene swimming pool at its heart, the 24-suite property is housed in graceful French colonial buildings in Laos’ Unesco-protected town of Luang Prabang. Airy and elegant throughout, the property lies just south of sacred Mount Phousi, within strolling distance of the temples, boutiques, and bakeries lining the main street. The fabled night market, picturesque banks of the Mekong River, and former Royal Palace are also nearby.
A sense of peace pervades Amantaka’s elegant colonial Suites, set between the picturesque banks of the Mekong and Khan Rivers in the heart of Luang Prabang, Laos
Spend a morning with writer and photographer Hans Berger at The Sala, part of his private residence a 45-minute boat ride from Amantaka through spectacular natural scenery. Hans is the creator of the Buddhist Archive of Photography.
As the sun sets over forested mountains, enjoy cocktails and canapés while witnessing the town’s evening rituals. The hotel's boat is also available for bespoke morning cruises – perhaps with a picnic to enjoy upstream.
